US carriers to address airline safety concerns over C-band spectrum
In an open letter, AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile US and UScellular agreed to take voluntary steps to allay worries about aviation safety and allow these telecom companies to fully utilize their C-band spectrum. According to the letter, the steps are intended to minimize operational impact on C-Band operations and support full-power deployments across the C-Band spectrum. In the past, airlines have resisted the introduction of C-band spectrum for 5G services due to concerns over interference with aircraft altimeters. To assure the secure coexistence of C-band frequencies and radio altimeters, which are more than 220 MHz apart, the FCC has issued licensing and technical standards.

Deutsche Telekom now owns a 50.2% stake in T-Mobile US
According to CEO Tim Höttges, Deutsche Telekom now owns 50.2% of T-Mobile US, completing a long-term objective initially stated at the company’s 2021 Capital Markets Day. When T-Mobile bought Sprint three years ago, DT owned 43% of the company. Deutsche Telekom has continuously increased its interest in the US business since then, reaching 49% in 2022. The corporation has now completed the final step towards regaining control of this asset.

Retail division of Apple reportedly lays off staff
Apple is reportedly firing some retail personnel to enhance commercial operations, but the actual number of individuals affected is unknown. Apple is providing impacted workers with the option of seeking other roles within the company or receiving up to four months of severance compensation if they choose not to continue. While these layoffs are on a far smaller scale than those announced by other major tech companies, they represent a shift for Apple, which has never resorted to layoffs before.

Vodafone installs solar panels at UK telecoms site to boost energy efficiency
Vodafone has installed its first on-site solar panels at a mobile telephone exchange (MTX) network location in Gloucester, making its UK network more energy-efficient. The 720 solar panels will provide about 240,000kWh of renewable energy per year, lowering the site’s dependency on the national grid by 12%. Over the next two years, the telecommunications company intends to deploy rooftop solar PV at additional UK locations. Vodafone is also utilizing big data analytics, artificial intelligence and machine learning to optimize power use across its 11,500 radio base stations, thereby reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions.
