Amazon Web Services awarded $724M cloud contract
The US Navy has issued a single contract to Amazon Web Services (AWS) potentially worth $723.9 million. Under a five-year enterprise software license (ESL) agreement, AWS will provide the Department of the Navy access to AWS’ commercial cloud environment, including training, certification courses and professional services from the cloud provider. The ESL includes work to be performed from December 2022 through to December 2028.

Nokia and Etisalat UAE show first 100 Gbps fiber broadband
Nokia has announced that together with Etisalat UAE, branded as Etisalat by e&, have demonstrated the fastest passive optical network (PON) speed in the Middle East and Africa region. A proof-of-concept (PoC) demonstration at the Nokia Bell Lab’s PON achieved speeds up to 100 gigabits per second (Gb/s) on a single wavelength, which is claimed to be four times faster than the most advanced networks available today. According to the statement, Nokia Bell Labs used innovative digital signal processing (DSP) techniques to achieve this result. With advanced DSP, the steps to 50G and 100G are straightforward, and 100G could become commercially available in the 2030s.

Ericsson establishes Green Financing Framework
Ericsson, a worldwide leader in delivering ICT solutions, has announced a new financing framework to cover future investments in energy efficient technologies and renewable energy. Ericsson’s Chief Financial Officer Carl Mellander said, “Proceeds raised under the framework will include capital expenditures and R&D investments in enhanced portfolio energy performance in our existing 4G and 5G offerings as well as future 6G solutions.
