DT to lead development of European Quantum Communication Infrastructure

The European Commission has chosen Deutsche Telekom (DT) to oversee the creation of a new high-security communications network, the European Quantum Communication Infrastructure (Euro QCI). The project intends to establish Europe as a leader in quantum communication by embedding quantum-based technologies into current communication infrastructures to give an extra layer of security based on quantum physics. The network will be divided into two parts: a terrestrial portion that will employ fiber communication cables and a space component that will use satellites.

Liberty Global buys a 5% stake in Vodafone

Liberty Global, the joint owner of Virgin Media O2, has paid £1.2 billion for a nearly 5% interest in Vodafone. According to the American business, which is led by John Malone, Vodafone’s present share price does not reflect its long-term worth. Mike Fries, CEO of Liberty Global, claimed that Vodafone had the ability to produce enormous wealth, notably mentioning a combination with CK Hutchison’s Three UK. The acquisition is described as “opportunistic” and does not represent the first move in a takeover effort. Vodafone has experienced severe competition in its most important markets, resulting in a 40% drop in its share price over the last four years.
