Tamares Telecom, a prominent fiber-based international communications and data service provider and network operator, has partnered with Grid Telecom, a subsidiary of the Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO) of Greece, to build ANDROMEDA, a subsea optical fiber cable system connecting Greece, Cyprus, and Israel.

The strategic partnership aims to create a new telecommunications corridor between Europe and the Middle East, providing advanced data transport solutions. The transcontinental fiber cable system will leverage the strategic locations of Greece and Israel, offering wholesale customers industry-leading connectivity and international reach across the European continent, the Mediterranean, and the Arabian Peninsula.

Grid Telecom, the main wholesaler in the Greek market, incorporates IPTO’s extensive optical network in Greece and neighboring countries with its fiber links and Points-of-Presence, providing network diversity, maximum security, and exceptionally low latency while establishing a new carrier-neutral, open-access connectivity hub in the region.

Tamares Telecom’s agreement with Grid Telecom for ANDROMEDA fits into its strategy of enhancing its infrastructure, expanding its international network, and increasing its entry points into Europe through the new cable system. Their existing TAMARES-NORTH high-capacity subsea cable system connects Israel and Cyprus, with extensions to multiple international destinations, delivering customized communication and cloud infrastructure solutions.

ANDROMEDA aims to connect Israel, Cyprus, and Greece through alternative low latency paths between Europe and the Middle East. Extensions will include subsea and terrestrial links westwards to the Balkans and key destinations in Central and Western Europe, as well as eastwards to the Arabian Peninsula.

Ori Yogev, Chairman of Aluma Infrastructure Fund, emphasized Tamares Telecom’s focus on infrastructure development and expansion. He noted that their partnership with Grid Telecom on the ANDROMEDA system would significantly boost their reach in Europe and the Middle East, with infrastructure diversity including new subsea cable systems and crossing routes catering to surging market demand for high-quality bandwidth data transport.

Manos Manousakis, Chairman, and CEO of IPTO, highlighted Greece’s transformation into a crucial energy and data hub through the construction of critical infrastructure for electricity and telecommunications backbone networks. He said the ANDROMEDA subsea cable system would further enhance Greece
