Mitel, a global business communications provider, has announced that it has entered into exclusive negotiations with Atos to acquire Unify, the Unified Communications and Collaboration (UCC) and Communication and Collaboration Services (CCS) businesses of the Atos group.
The proposed purchase would boost Mitel’s organizational scope, worldwide revenues and profitability. With a combined client base of more than 75 million users in more than 100 countries and a channel network of more than 5,500 worldwide partners, Mitel and Unify would become a well-established UC leader in the Americas and Europe.
As part of the proposed agreement, Mitel would acquire Unify’s voice platforms, collaboration and contact center solutions, device and endpoint portfolio, and related intellectual property. A managed services company with a track record of assisting corporate businesses in digitally transforming their communications environments would also be added by Unify. This expansion is anticipated to further enhance Mitel’s capacity to provide UC customers with a variety of options.
With complementary vertical knowledge, integrations and solutions, Mitel and Unify would also be well-positioned to fulfill the demands of clients in key verticals including healthcare, the public sector, hotels and financial services.
The merged business would have the operational capacity, portfolio, global reach, go-to-market capabilities and financial profile to upgrade the UC experience for clients more quickly and effectively than either company could achieve separately.
The proposed acquisition is subject to discussions with the applicable employee representative bodies and other required regulatory clearances, with a closing date anticipated to be in the second half of 2023. If the merger is approved, Tarun Loomba, president and chief executive officer of Mitel, would serve as President and Chief Executive Officer of the combined company.
