ZTE, a global ICT solutions provider, recently released its “2022 Sustainability Report” that emphasizes the company’s commitment to green corporate operations, supply chain management, digital infrastructure enhancements, and industry empowerment. The report outlines the company’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase decarbonization, and promote social responsibility.
ZTE has reduced its total greenhouse gas emissions by 7.5% year-on-year thanks to a low-carbon strategy that spans across various sectors of the company. Xie Junshi, Executive Vice President and COO of ZTE, stated, “With our established carbon neutrality target, we have set up a corporate-level team and systematically advanced 10 major carbon reduction initiatives.”
In 2022, the company saw a 14.72% decrease in the annual carbon emissions of sold products, a 6.4% reduction in power consumption, and a 61% reduction in the overall air freight ratio.
To further support sustainability goals, ZTE is actively developing digital energy solutions that utilize artificial intelligence (AI), cloud technologies, green power generation, and intelligent energy storage. The company has joined forces with over 500 partners across various industries to promote innovative sustainable digital transformation practices.
Furthermore, ZTE has also joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), a partnership between CDP, the UN, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), which encourages companies to establish science-based targets for achieving Net Zero emissions. By joining SBTi, ZTE aims to reduce emissions in line with the UN’s goal of limiting global temperature increases to 1.5°C in the next five to ten years.
The company boosts its sustainability efforts by consistently investing in innovation and technology advancements. ZTE has filed 85,000 global patent applications, with approximately 43,000 of them already authorized. The company is currently focusing on research and the development of worldwide standards for 5G technology.
In addition to these efforts, ZTE also prioritizes resilience and corporate social responsibility. The company ensures that its partners, suppliers, and customers build resilience by offering secure, trustworthy products and sharing safe practices. ZTE has obtained various certifications and recognitions, such as the German Federal Office for Information Security’s NESAS CCS-GI security certification, and the ISO 9001, TL 9000, QC 080000, ESD, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 22301 management systems certifications.
To encourage sustainable practices among its suppliers, ZTE performed dual-carbon audits for 109 suppliers in 2022. The company also received multiple awards for its sustainability efforts, responsible corporate practices, and philanthropic endeavors.
