Deutsche Telekom, in collaboration with Mavenir, the Network Software Provider, is making significant strides in advancing monetization opportunities through 5G standalone network slicing technologies. These developments are powered by Mavenir’s cloud-native Converged Packet Core.

One noteworthy achievement is the introduction of the “5G Live Video Production Service” in partnership with RTL Deutschland. This innovative service, now available commercially from Deutsche Telekom, enables professional video and media production companies to transmit high-definition video streams seamlessly over the 5G network. Remarkably, this can be accomplished without the need for specialized equipment like satellite vans. Additionally, this service has the potential to extend to mobile journalism, empowering regular consumers to engage in spontaneous video production using their smartphones.

Another milestone is the successful demonstration of a multi-domain orchestration proof-of-concept (PoC) with open APIs for on-demand 5G dynamic network slicing services. This collaborative PoC showcases the ease with which businesses can request services through Deutsche Telekom’s customer interface, initiating the setup of a customized 5G network slice that guarantees superior Quality of Service (QoS) tailored to specific connectivity requirements. This end-to-end process culminates in the activation of a dedicated network slice with a custom Service Level Agreement (SLA).

Ashok Khuntia, President of Core Networks at Mavenir, expressed the company’s commitment to support Deutsche Telekom’s 5G Standalone business goals through dynamic network slicing. Mavenir’s cloud-native 5G Core offers open APIs, enabling Deutsche Telekom’s enterprise customers to seamlessly request and configure dedicated 5G Core network functions.

Torsten Griesche, VP of Tribe Head Data (Network Data Core) at Deutsche Telekom, emphasized their dedication to meeting the demands of enterprise customers for tailored and flexible connectivity services. He sees the launch of the 5G Live Video Production Service as just the beginning of an exciting journey that leverages slicing and automation.

The Network Slicing solution demonstrated by Deutsche Telekom automates the entire lifecycle of network slices, from ordering to instantiation to configuration to management. This system offers increased agility, efficiency, cost savings, enhanced security, isolation, and new revenue opportunities for businesses, consumers, and enterprises alike.
