The company nexfibre has recently released an ambitious plan detailing their nationwide roll-out strategy expected to continue until 2024. As part of their 2023 Q3 report, nexfibre reaffirmed their objective to extend their services to over 5 million premises by 2026. Their approach involves leveraging the advanced XGS-PON architecture, which promises to offer symmetrical speeds of up to 10 Gbps.

Next year, nexfibre is set to extend their service areas, with locations including Kent, Cheshire, and Durham expected to see considerable expansion. The recently unveiled plans serve as a testament to the remarkable strides the company has made over the year; as of the previous month, nexfibre successfully connected over half a million premises.

Nexfibre is a collaboration between entities including Liberty Global, Telefónica, and InfraVia Capital Partners. Their collective goal includes making their Fibre-to-the-Premises network accessible to up to 7 million homes. In particular, the company targets connecting 5 million premises by 2026, with the option of an added 2 million premises.

Virgin Media O2, a joint venture by Liberty Global and Telefónica, highlights that the formation of nexfibre will allow them to expand their fixed-line broadband networks to reach 23 million premises by 2027, approximately 80% of the UK.

The recently appointed CEO of nexfibre, Rajiv Datta, expressed delight over the company’s progress, attributing credit to their fruitful collaboration with Virgin Media O2. “I could not be prouder of the progress that has been made in ramping up our build programme this year; thanks to the huge efforts of our team and our partners at Virgin Media O2. We continue to accelerate the pace of build as we pursue our mission of transforming access to quality broadband across the UK,” stated Datta.

He also gave assurances about the strength and potential of their network to bring lasting value to communities across the UK. Datta remarked, “We believe strongly in the quality and capability of our network, and the lasting value it can create in communities across the country. By increasing choice for ISPs, and boosting competition, we are playing a key role in closing the digital divide.”
